I just got back from completing week 5.3 of the couch to 5k program, which is a 5 minute walk, 20 minute jog, then another 5 minute walk.
I feel dizzy with joy. I didn’t think I’d be able to do it, so I told myself I’d run two ten minute intervals. I got to ten minutes and said, ah fuck it. I’ll just keep running. Once I broke through the ten minute mark, it became easy. Well, I guess I shouldn’t say easy – easier is more like it.
When I first started, I couldn’t even do week one. The most I could manage was running 40 second intervals with 90 second walk breaks. The first time I ran 3 minutes, I was stoked. Then I ran 5 minutes and thought I was a legend. Then I did 8 minutes and felt like a warrior.
2o minutes makes you feel like you’re king of the fucking universe. Few feelings come close to the sense of accomplishment I am feeling right now. I can’t wait for my next run!
